Camp Location

Camp will be held at the established Camp Oro Quay property in the mountains east of Albuquerque, NM. It is a 40 to 50 minute drive from Albuquerque. Click here for a PDF document containing directions.

The Campers

This camp is designed specifically for children between the ages of 8 and 13 who are able to participate in a "sleep over" camp.

We will accept a total of 30 children; about 20 will be children who have ASD and about 10 will be siblings, cousins or close friends who would serve as peer models. In future years we hope to offer more sessions to accommodate more children.

Children sleep in male or female dormitories and will be supervised by adults at all times.

Activities

Activities include swimming, hiking, sports, arts & crafts, games, horseback riding, music, drama, campfires, hayrides, a ropes course, and friendship building activities.

Camper/Staff Ratio

A staff ratio of one camp staffer to every two campers will be provided. Every effort will be made to provide one-to-one staffing for campers who need closer supervision. However, we cannot promise a one-to-one ratio at all times.

Staff & Volunteers

Volunteers receive ASD specific training regarding:

  • Safe Camping Procedures;
  • Characteristics of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders including Asperger's Syndrome;
  • How to Encourage Social Skills; and
  • Behavior Management Techniques

A nurse is at the camp full-time to handle medications, injury or illness.

Cost

  • $350 for the First Camper

  • $325 for the Second Camper

A deposit of half the amount ($175 for the first camper and $162.50 for the second) is due with the application by April 1st. The deposit is non-refundable unless we are unable to provide camp for your child. The remaining half payment for each camper is due by July 1st. No refunds will be provided after July 1st.

Ask about "Camperships" if your camper needs financial assistance to attend.
