The camp recruits interested and caring volunteers, students, and community professionals to participate as counselors and program leaders. If you, or someone you know, is interested in getting involved, please contact the camp, or complete an application for involvement. Applicants are screened and interviewed. The camp also works collaboratively with community agencies and New Mexico colleges to provide an educational course opportunity for persons interested, while they receive hands-on experience with persons with ASD.
Camp Rising Sun is part of The Autism Programs at the University of New Mexico, Center for Development and Disability. As an Autism program, the camp seeks funding from grants, civic organizations, local businesses, and individuals to help make the camp a reality for deserving campers and to fulfill the Camp Rising Sun mission.
Actual cost for each camper is approximately five times as much as an individual camper is charged in camper fees. We rely on the generous contributions of our supporters to offer the camp experience at a significantly lower cost. Over 40% of campers are not able to pay the cost of camp.
The Camp Rising Sun Wishlist is a list of items the camp needs for the upcoming season. Camp operates solely on the generous donations of the community. If you know of someone, or you yourself are able to help us, your kind and generous donations are greatly appreciated.
